Cadet - Overview
Cadets once onboarded and passed Class one firearm training will be covered to carry a Class 1 Firearm when on duty. Once this is complete cadets can begin ride alongs. Academy is not a requirement of starting ride alongs.
Cadets have 6 practical assessment and 1 theory assessment to pass in order to become an officer. They will require to get 75% overall to pass.
Cadets can ride along with anyone of officer and above but should seek out FTOs where possible.
Cadets should 311 or wait for clear radio comms to ask for a ride along from the MRPD motor pool.
Cadets cannot be on duty alone until they are cleared for Solo
Cadets can be cleared for solo once they have completed the 6 practical modules. They will be informed of this clearance for Solo by an FTO.
Solo Cadets is not a mandatory part of going from cadet to officer but it is advisable.
Solo Cadets can be on duty alone, however it is advised that they be cautious on attending actives and remember their safety is the most important thing.
Once you are solo cadet you can ride alone in a crown vic. This period should be an opportunity for your to grow in confidence as an officer but you should be mindful to still push to get signed off on assessment.
