Responding To Injured Parties

EMS have requested we follow the following steps when attending an injured party.

If EMS are available

  1. Check the vitals of the patient - Check for pulse, assess injuries etc.

  2. If they have no pulse, perform CPR (as per EMS First Aid Training)

  3. See if they are responsive - Can they talk and understand you? If so, ask what happened (unless you already know)

  4. Contact EMS - Radio 10 AND /911e to give EMS location. Advise of situation before they arrive.

  5. If performing CPR, continue until EMS arrive and take over.

If EMS are not available

  • Check the vitals of the patient - Check for pulse, assess injuries etc.

  • If they have no pulse, perform CPR (as per EMS First Aid Training)

  • See if they are responsive - Can they talk and understand you? If so, ask what happened (unless you already know)

  • If they have been shot, stop any bleeding. If they have a neck injury, apply a brace.

  • Carry/Escort them into a Police Vehicle, and transport them to St Fiacre, where they can check in and receive treatment.

All Police Vehicles should be supplied with a Basic First Aid Kit, which includes supplies to stop bleeding (pack the wound and bandage), bandage basic wounds (antiseptic spray, bandages) and a neck brace for neck injuries.

(These are not physical items, RP these being there!)
