Process and Flow Chart: Coordinating with EMS for Incident Response

Process:

  1. Communicate Radio Channel Change:

    • Announce over the active radio channel: "Switching to channel 10."

  2. Switch to EMS Radio Channel:

    • Switch to channel 10 and wait for radio silence before speaking.

  3. Initial Contact:

    • Say, “PD to EMS,” and wait for acknowledgment or invitation to speak.

  4. Provide Incident Details:

    • Share the following details:

      • Triage location verbally and also by sending a /911e for the location.

      • Number of injured parties.

      • Summary of injuries (if known).

  5. Advise EMS of PD Frequency:

    • Inform EMS of the PD frequency for the incident.

    • Request EMS to:

      • Switch to the PD frequency.

      • Stage close to the scene.

      • Confirm if it’s clear to enter the scene.

  6. Return to Active PD Frequency:

    • Switch back to the PD frequency and advise the Incident Commander (IC) that EMS is en route.

  7. Clearance to Enter:

    • IC will confirm with EMS if it is safe to enter the scene.

  8. Coordinate Extraction:

    • EMS will coordinate with IC for patient extraction to the hospital, escorted by PD if necessary.
