Decamps / Water
If we have a decamp situation where the suspect is heading towards a bike or jet ski and we are unable to continue the chase with the available ground units then we are allowed to tase the suspect to prevent them getting onto the vehicle. For Jet Ski specifically this needs to be well before they are near the water.
If the suspect is heading towards a decamp car in a location where ground units will not be able to chase then we are covered to take tires, remember this should be a last resort! The standard for this is for the officer to be out their vehicle and the suspect car to be stationary or rolling start(<20mph).
Once they are on the Bike then we are able to tackle as long as the bike is stationary or at a rolling start (this must be below 10mph and within 5m of its starting position).
For Jet Skis once they are on the Ski then its a battle of endurance and we should not tackle or tase incase it causes them to drown. This is the same when they are swimming. If they draw a weapon in the water make sure you create space between you and the suspect to avoid being attacked. Ground units then out of the water or on a boat can take lethal measures.
