Active - Overview

Response to Incidents:

Ideally you should not be attending actives solo, if you do have to then you should only be there to ensure the hostages safety. When you make the decision to attend an incident/alert, you must state on the radio or /311 that you are intending to go to the incident listed, that you are on route. You then need to confirm upon arrival that you have arrived at the incident via radio or /311.

An example would be:

  • “200, 10-76 to the 10-90 at Harmony” - Going to the initial alert.

  • “200, 10-23 at the 10-90 Harmony, waiting out for 77’s on the East side of Route 68” - Arrived near location, waiting for more units on the East Side

  • “200, Code 4 Hostage and Bank at 10-90 Harmony” - Calling the area safe after the robbery has left the scene.

VCB:

VCB, or Visual Contact Broken should be called as soon as you can no longer see the vehicle, this includes when it out of sight from you round corners. When you call VCB, you should also call last known location.

If you do not regain immediate sight of the vehicle, you should then operate as CODE 6, and other units involved in the pursuit should also operate CODE 6 and announce the direction and area they have searched, calling those areas CLEAR. All cars should split off in different directions to ensure maximum coverage, and also ensure to check the local area for alleyways, hiding spots or vehicles that have parked on the side of the road.

UTL:

UTL, or Unable to Locate is when the pursuit is called off. The only person (unless crashed out, no longer in action) who should call Unable to Locate (thus ending the pursuit) should be the IC. If the original IC is no longer involved due to collision or injury then it should be the most senior officer.

Code 4 Calling:

The IC, or Commanding Officer/s are responsible for calling a scene Code 4. Others must not call the scene Code 4 until the IC is satisfied that the area is safe.
