High Value Vehicle Theft

High Value Vehicle - 4/7 Units depending on Class. Air 1 dependent on Class/Vehicles

One or more units should go to the initial area to collect evidence/ensure safety of surrounding Public.

If a vehicle is being tampered with, but people are downed in the vicinity, stage off the direct area and call for 77’s.

Ensure the vehicle is followed and plate scanned immediately, to read the class.

Vehicle class, description plate and, number of occupants should be communicated via /311 when possible.

S Class (Import/Non Import)

If a vehicle that is part of the HVV theft is listed as S Class, or S+ Class, 3 Units and 2 Parallel units are permitted to be in the chase. This is with 2 x Interceptor units. One or two additional units should be sent outside of the Chase area to secure the original scene and any potential evidence that can be used.

Whilst the vehicle is tracked, Pit Box Spike should not be approved unless the driver has driven in such a manor that is causing direct threat to lives, or has struck civilians already. Whilst untracked, the highest ranking officer in the pursuit can authorize Pit Box Spike, but this needs to be requested first from the Primary. For any HVV S or above air 1 is authorised and should prioritse the Primary vehicle, unless the situation escalates. For example a 78 call or 13 - A in the active.

A Class

If a vehicle that is part of the HVV Theft is listed as A class, 3 Units and 1 parallel unit are permitted to be in the chase, this is with normal chase conditions.

1 of these units, should ideally be an Interceptor however this can be stood down by the highest ranking officer if it is not needed due to the fluctuation in vehicle power at A Class.

Treat all other Vehicle Thefts of B and below as per the standard chase procedures. Refer to the Penal code for the different tiers of vehicle theft charges.

Interrupting Vehicles

In the event of a HVV occurring where additional vehicles get involved, you are permitted an additional 2 units PER vehicle being involved to protect the main pursuing drivers. This should be communicated both over Radio, and descriptions of the interfering vehicle relayed, and their actions accurate.

Each interfering vehicle should be warned 2 times that if they continue to interfer then their vehicle will be immobilised. Pit speeds are to be kept to as per SOP's.

Air One at this point, is also permitted to be used due to the high risk of injuries from interrupting vehicles. The pursuit should always attempt to focus on the original HVV vehicle.
