Foot pursuit - Overview
· Suspects must be tackled to the ground or stood still when attempting cuffs.
· you must announce you are going for cuffs
· you can escalate to taser after 2 cuff breaks
· you can escalate to baton after 4 cuff breaks
· tackles must be safely executed do not:
Tackle while suspect is on a ladder
Tackle while a suspect is climbing a wall
Tackle when on stairs
Tackle while swimming
· cuffs can be attempted from the first tackle. Officers discretion can be used on when to cuff if you want to prolong the foot chase.
· you do not need to annouce they have been tackled but should call out they are resisting arrest by breaking the cuffs.
