Warrants

Officers can issue 2 different types of warrants. For both types no charges should be added to the suspect, just detailed in the body of the incident.

ARREST

There is 100% proof that a suspect has been witnessed on the scene of a crime and is clearly identifiable to officers on the scene.

QUESTIONING

If there is reason to believe that they have been on the scene of a crime (their car was used, someone dropped their name accidentally, witness tells you who it is, DNA/Fingerprint found on scene etc)

To issue a warrant for a suspect you will need to do the following:

  1. Create a new incident or update an existing one

  2. Add the suspect to the criminals involved on the right and mark them with WARRANT

  3. Write the charges WITHIN THE REPORT and state which type of warrant it is.

  4. Save the incident.

Once you have done these steps, the suspect's warrant will show up on the dashboard of the MDT under the warrants list, and their profile will display ACTIVE WARRANT.

Changes to the Expiry Dates of Warrants

Effective immediately, the following revisions are made to the expiry periods of warrants issued within this jurisdiction:

  • Felony Class 2 Warrants: These warrants shall now remain active for a minimum of 14 days from the date of issuance. After this period, the warrant will automatically expire unless a request for an extension or further legal action is taken by the authorities.

  • Felony Class 1 Warrants: These warrants shall now remain active for a minimum of 10 days from the date of issuance. As with Felony Class 2, an extension or further action may be pursued as necessary.

  • Misdemeanor Warrants: These warrants shall remain active for a minimum of 7 days from the date of issuance. If no action is taken by the authorities within this period, the warrant will expire unless otherwise amended.

  • Extensions are only to be applied for from a Sgt and above.

  • If an officer underneath the rank of Sgt wishes to extend the warrant then they will need to communicate with a Sgt and have them apply for the extension on their behalf.

  • If after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd extension the officers do not wish to extend the warrant then no contact to myself is needed.

  • Warrants for questioning are not held by this legislation meaning if the warrant is for the sole purpose of questioning an individual then there is no expiry date needed, this falls completely down to the arresting officer or incident command.

Extension request must be written up in full and emailed to myself at least 24 hours prior to the warrant expiring.

*ALL WARRANTS ARE SUBJECTED TO EXTENSIONS AND CAN BE EXTENDED A MAXIMUM OF 3 TIMES*
